Dear
Parents and Caregivers,
I hope
you have all had a lovely relaxing Easter break and took the opportunity to do
some fun activities with your children. The
children have finished their swimming programme, been to the Capital E Arts
Festival shows, examined the local beach during Seaweek. Room 1 has started and school is just as busy as ever with all the usual programmes underway.
Last Thursday’s events
The
children loved meeting the mini Easter Bunny and then taking part in the Easter
Egg hunt on Thursday. Thank you to the Year 8 children for hiding the eggs all
around our playground and to Hazel for being a great bunny.
The ‘wacky
hair’ day was well supported too with an amazing array of colourful and unusual
hairstyles appearing.
This week - Grandparents and Grand-friends
afternoon
The
children are really looking forward to hosting their special visitors tomorrow.
Just a reminder that this afternoon is not for parents. Please make sure that
your child brings along a small plate of food to their classroom to share with
their grandparent or grand-friend.
Next week
There
will be New Entrant parent and caregiver conferences for the children who
have been at school for about six weeks in room 3 next Wednesday and Thursday
afternoons.
Jumpjam
We have
Jumpjam each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning in the hall at 8.40 p.m. The
reason we do this is to energize the children ready for their learning. Research shows that exercise enables children to focus better and improve
their concentration levels, which in turn enhances their success in the
classroom. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join us during Jumpjam and
take part or watch the children. It is extremely important that it is quiet
during the Jumpjam routines as the children need to concentrate on the
movements and not be distracted by background noise. It would be appreciated if
private conversations were held outside the hall during this time.
Mathletics and Reading Eggs
By now
all children should have been working on Mathletics and those who took up the
subscription offer for Reading eggs should also be well underway. If you have any
problems or queries about these programmes please do not hesitate to ask me. If you would still like to subscribe to Reading eggs please send your $20 to the
school office.
Looking ahead to Term 2
Planning
for next term’s programmes are well underway and the first event we are looking
forward to is an afternoon especially for our parents and caregivers.
“Celebration of Learning”
afternoon –Wednesday May 15th 1.30 p.m.
Keep the date free!
This will
be your opportunity to visit your child’s classroom to see the programme in
action, spend the afternoon with them, find out what they have been learning
about, what their next learning steps are and how you can support them in their
learning at home.
During
the term, there will also be a Cross Country Run and sessions for parents about
supporting your child’s learning in reading, writing and mathematics, along
with reports and parent conferences. The dates for these events are yet to be
confirmed.
